Rendell Jones, Associate Director, Management Directorate

Experience and Achievements

Rendell Jones resumed his duties as the associate director for the Management Directorate, a position he was appointed to in 2010. He served as the acting deputy director from December 2013 to July 2014.As associate director, he oversees the offices of the Chief Financial Officer, Information Technology, Human Capital and Training, Contracting, Administration, Intake and Document Production, Equal Opportunity and Inclusion, and Security and Integrity.

In March 2006, Jones became USCIS’ first chief financial officer (CFO), accepting responsibility for all agency activities related to budget, finance, accounting, lockbox operations, resource management and annual planning. When he became CFO, USCIS employed about 10,000 people and operated within a $2.5 billion annual budget.

Before joining USCIS, Jones was the deputy budget director of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). There, he managed the department’s Budget Office and directed budget formulation and execution. He also oversaw financial planning processes related to the department’s $42 billion annual budget. Jones was also the department’s lead executive on appropriations issues and its principal liaison for the committee on Appropriations of the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives.

Jones began his federal service with the Department of Justice (DOJ) in 1996 as a presidential management intern. He held various budgeting positions with DOJ’s budget staff, and served as an appropriations liaison officer with the Justice Management Division. Jones also spent one year with DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.

During his service with the federal government, Jones was awarded the Meritorious Executive Presidential Rank Award and Secretary’s Silver Medal, the second highest award granted by DHS.

Education

Rendell Jones is a cum laude graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and obtained his Master of Public Administration from North Carolina State University.
