INA: ACT 242 FN 1


FN 1     Former section 242 rewritten by § 306 of IIRIRA . Former subsection 242(j) was redesignated as subsection (i) and moved to the end of section 241, as inserted by section 305(a)(3). The rest of section 242 was deleted by § 306's rewrite. Prior to amending, all references to "special inquiry officer" were changed to "immigration judge" which amendments were in effect during transition period. The new section 242 was added § 306(a)(2) of IIRIRA. Former section 106 which governed judicial appeals is repealed by § 306(b) of IIRIRA. The effective date of new INA section 242 is provided by § 306(c) of IIRIRA.
