Lora Ries, Chief of Staff, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
Experience and Achievements
Lora Ries began her role as chief of staff for USCIS in November 2017. From March to October 2018, Ries served as the acting associate director for the External Affairs Directorate.
Before joining USCIS, Ries was a senior advisor to the DHS under secretary for management. In that capacity, her portfolio focused on immigration information technology (IT), and identity and data programs. She oversaw the implementation of Biometric Exit and the creation of a person-centric-view enterprise platform that provides an individual’s complete travel and immigration history to support officers and adjudicators in correctly enforcing and administering the law.
She has also served as a senior principal at a federal IT services provider, as the vice president and senior counsel at Monument Policy Group, and as the policy director in the Border and Transportation Security Directorate.
Before serving with DHS, Ries was counsel on the House of Representatives’ Committee on the Judiciary for the Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security.
Ries is a published writer on immigration, identification, and biometrics.
She received her Bachelor of Arts and law degrees at Valparaiso University in Indiana.
