Amanda Baran, Chief, Office of Policy and Strategy

Experience and Achievements

Amanda Baran was appointed as the chief of the Office of Policy and Strategy on Jan. 20, 2021.

Before serving in this position she served as an independent consultant to non-profit organizations. Prior to that, she worked at the Department of Homeland Security in roles including principal director of immigration policy, chief of public engagement with USCIS, senior policy analyst, and as an asylum officer with USCIS.

In 2011, she served as a senior advisor to the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Before joining the federal government, Baran was a staff attorney with Legal Momentum’s Immigrant Women Program, where she advocated for the Violence Against Women Act and trained a wide variety of stakeholders on issues related to immigrant women’s access to immigration benefits and services. Baran began her legal career as a staff attorney at Legal Services of North West Texas.


She received a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center and received her B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.
