Inga I. Dawson, Acting Associate Director, Management Directorate

Inga Dawson has been selected as the Acting Associate Director of the Management Directorate. She began her new role on April 27, 2020.

Experience and Achievements

Dawson previously served as the acting deputy associate director of Management Directorate from February to March 2020. Dawson became the USCIS chief security officer on Oct. 31, 2016. In that position, she also filled the role of chief of the USCIS Office of Security and Integrity. She oversaw security, emergency management, integrity, and safety programs protecting 32,000 federal and contract employees at more than 200 geographically dispersed facilities.

Dawson previously served in increasingly progressive leadership roles in the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), culminating in her service as TSA chief security officer in January 2013 and a detail as executive advisor to the TSA deputy administrator from April to October 2016. She is most proud of the work she did as chief of the National Explosives Detection Canine Training Program (December 2010 — April 2012), where she managed more than 900 explosive detection canine teams. She also managed the startup of new, complex canine technologies involving 100 passenger screening canine teams, and the planned construction of a new building to accommodate program expansion on Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.


Dawson graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She is a DHS Senior Fellow and completed executive training at the Harvard Kennedy School.
