On June 6, 2008, President George W. Bush signed Executive Order 13465, which amended Executive Order 12989 to direct all executive departments and agencies to require contractors with covered federal contracts to use an electronic employment verification system (E-Verify) to verify the employment eligibility of all employees hired during the contract term and all employees performing work in the United States on the contract. On November 14, 2008, the Civilian Agency Acquisition Council and the Defense Acquisition Regulations Council published a Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) final rule (FAR case 2007-013, Employment Eligibility Verification, found at 48 C.F.R., Subpart 22.18) that implements this amended Executive Order.
