TPS Extended and Redesignated for Syria

The secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended and redesignated the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Syria for 18 months from Oct. 1, 2016, through March 31, 2018. The extension allows current TPS beneficiaries of Syria to re-register for TPS. DHS has also automatically extended the validity of Employment Authorization Documents issued under the TPS designation of Syria for six months, through March 31, 2017. The redesignation allows individuals who currently do not have TPS to submit an initial application, in accordance with the Federal Register notice.

Additional information on TPS for Syria is available at www.uscis.gov/tps. Employers verifying or reverifying the employment eligibility of employees who are TPS beneficiaries from Syria should refer to the Temporary Protected Status page on I-9 Central.
