USCIS International Operations Division Teleconference
On July 11, 2011, the USCIS International Operations Division and the Office of Public Engagement invited interested parties to participate in a teleconference to discuss the sunset of the Lautenberg Amendment provision for the adjustment of status of parolees. The Lautenberg Amendment to the Foreign Operations Appropriations Act allows certain Lautenberg category members to adjust to lawful permanent resident status if they were paroled into the United States after being denied refugee status and have been physically present for one year in the United States.
However the provision of the Lautenberg Amendment which allows for adjustment of status for parolees is set to expire on September 30, 2011 and USCIS will end the Lautenberg Parole Program.
During the session, USCIS provided an overview of the Sunset of the Lautenberg Amendment with regard to parole and discussed who will be affected by the decision and what action they will need to take.
