On Monday, May 8, the USCIS Public Engagement Division (PED) hosted a virtual meeting with American Immigration Lawyers Association’s U/T/VAWA National Committee and coalition partners. The purpose of this meeting was to provide USCIS with an opportunity to hear directly from stakeholders on their priorities, and get any feedback they may have on T, U, and VAWA related issues.
This module discusses the definition of a refugee as codified in the Immigration and Nationality Act and its interpretation in administrative and judicial case law. The primary focus of this module is the determination as to whether an applicant has established a reasonable possibility of suffering future harm in the country of nationality or last habitual residence.
On September 1, 2022, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in Behring Regional Center LLC and IIUSA v. Mayorkas, et al., 3:22-cv-2487, and EB5 Capital, et al. v. Dept. of Homeland Security, et al., 3:22-cv-3948, approved a settlement between the parties. Under the terms of the settlement, representatives of USCIS must participate in quarterly meetings with representatives of the plaintiffs to discuss implementation of the settlement. In accordance with the transparency provisions of Sec. 107 of the EB-5 Reform and Integrity Act of 2022, USCIS will make minutes of these meetings publicly available through publication on the USCIS website.
Overview of nationwide trial for the naturalization test redesign initiative. This event was hosted by USCIS on Friday, April 28, 2023, from 2 to 3 p.m. Eastern. During this engagement, USCIS gave an overview of the trial speaking and civics test design and provided information on volunteering for the trial tests.
