Listening Session: USCIS APIs

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) invited you to participate in a listening session on Thursday, Feb. 10, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Eastern. The listening session was for software developers to provide feedback on the use of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that would allow users of their commercially available case management systems to submit and receive information, including the filing of applications, through their case management systems. USCIS is committed to public engagement, and sessions such as these provide us with valuable feedback as we work to improve our programs.

Topics of interest and questions for consideration: While USCIS is interested in overall feedback regarding the use of APIs, we would appreciate feedback on the following topics:

  1. Expectations for initial launch and longer term:
  • Needs, technical/business support, documentation, time for development/marketing
  1. Building a full service for an immigration benefit:
  • Preferred initial form type
  1. Functions required to get started; functions that would have the greatest impact
  2. Risks and concerns for software developers working with USCIS APIs
  3. General feedback
