Donald Hawkins is the chief of the Office of Privacy.
Background Experience/Significant Achievements
He assumed his role in November 2007. As chief, Hawkins directs agency-wide efforts to ensure USCIS adheres to federal privacy laws, regulations and policies, and sustains privacy protections and the transparency of USCIS’ operations. Hawkins’ diverse experience has prepared him for the opportunities and challenges that come with leading privacy efforts for an agency that includes a workforce of more than 18,000 employees, and to meet the unique needs of USCIS’ applicants - both domestic and abroad. Before joining USCIS, Hawkins held various positions within the federal government including at the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons, the Executive Office of the President, the Office of Management and Budget, the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Secret Service. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1980 to 2003. Hawkins is also a Certified International Privacy Professional through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and a certified Leadership Coach.
Education
Donald Hawkins earned an Associate Degree in Legal Studies, Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management and Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership.
